KINLEITH MILL:  UPDATE

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF FOOTBRIDGE AND LANARK ROAD WEST ACCESS PATHS.

Pathway/Steps at Kinleith Mill - Access is now available via both sets of steps to the WoL Walkway via the housing estate. Both concrete sections at the Lanark Road West access remain unchanged and will require care when walking as they are slippy. However the foot sections have been resurfaced and the handrail secured (replaced?) and painted. There are also new guard rails at the top for safety. The footbridge has been replaced and there is an additional small upper bridge on the estate side. You can now walk in a loop through the houses and back onto the WoL walkway or up to LRW.

KINLEITH MILL:

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF FOOTBRIDGE AND LANARK ROAD WEST ACCESS PATHS.

Please be aware of the following:

The footbridge across the river and both access paths from Lanark Road West will be will be closed from 13th March to 26th June 2017.

This closure is necessary to allow general repairs and repainting to be carried out to the footbridge. In addition, new steps / rise on south side of the bridge will be created to allow access to the estate over the new flood overflow channel.

During this period Cala will investigate whether improvements can be made to the surface of the west access path to Lanark Road West as the upper portion of this path is extremely slippy. They will also inspect the East access path to ascertain whether any further repairs are required there.

RIVERSIDE RIGHT of WAY CLOSURE.

From 13th March 2017 the existing path on the south riverbank will close forever.

Great effort was put in by Currie Community Council to try and work with Cala and City of Edinburgh Council to ensure that this path was retained. This resulted in a Scottish Government appeal hearing. Unfortunately common sense did not prevail and our appeal was not successful.

However, a new informal pathway will be created and will be fully open when the site is complete. This will include a new section which will ensure that pedestrians do not have to cross roads within the estate twice. When the footbridge and access paths reopen a portion of the riverside pathway will be available which allows access to the Water of Leith Walkway through the housing estate.

Further information will be provided as and when it becomes available.
